| Ko Tao - Dive, dive, dive!
From the train station at Chumphon, we bought a ticket for a bus/boat combo to get us to Ko Tao. You can get either a fast or slow boat. We chose the slow/cheaper one. We relaxed and after a while got our first glimpse of an island in the Gulf of Thailand. There were numerous touts on the boat, all ready to sell a dive course. We were a bit tired and so asked a few questions but didn't commit to anything. Buy Now |
| Coast to Coast
After the last journal entry @ PC, we were given a welcome surprise - festivities in Krabi, due to the "Lanta festival" that celebrates the high tourism season. The food markets were extended to include arts and crafts, food, dance and religious ceremonies, as well as paying tribute to those lost in the tsunami. That night we stayed in the Thai Hotel, only to return to Green Tea the next day. Buy Now |
| A Magic Island : Ko Phangan
An island with heart, with no worries, and with endless beauty. During my stay in Thailand, I visited this island twice and often dreamt of Thammasat relocating here. Backpackers and other tourists, including exchange students, all agree that this is one of the better islands. (Diving enthusiasts would argue otherwise). Ko Phangan is still free from larger corporate dwellings and thus is still a huge attraction for the average backpacker. It's also an attractive force for those daredevil and dangerous types: trying new experiences is part of the draw of this island. Buy Now |
| The full moon party
It was a bit of good fortune that the night before the full moon it absolutely pissed it down, although it didnt seem it at the time. It meant that we didnt go to had rin and got a good nights sleep. We got up about lunch time and met up with the derby boys. One of the group had been here before so knew of a really nice bay on the island. We all went to had rin where we got a taxi boat to had juan. We arrived and this is what the postcards look like, It was absolutely beautiful. Buy Now |
| 'Moon Party Town'
Feeling slighthly better today, we decided to venture to nearby Ko Phangan, site of the legendary 'full moon party' though we had most unfortunately missed it by a few days. we were also going to miss the 'half moon' and 'black moon' parties...you get the idea, though legend has it that it started off as someone's mad birthday party in the eighties and perpetuated as an excuse to have a purely hedonistic island of booze, hard drugs and sex with authorities turning a blind eye and perhaps joining in; actually i could be jailed for saying that... Anyway, still worth a visit...even though we could see the island quite clearly from the pier near our hostel, it still took 40 minutes to get there, which seemed odd as we were cruising along but didnt seem to be getting there... | Full Moon Fever
The right place at the right time. Mardi Gras in February. Octoberfest in October. Carnivale in March. For Lenny and I, it was being on Koh Phangan, Thailand during a full moon.
Every month, thousands of party goers move to the beaches of Koh Phangan to celebrate under the full moon. The party lasts all night until the sun comes up the next morning. Originally, we weren't planning on attending but we were in the neighbourhood at just the right time and couldn't pass up the chance. Buy Now |
